FEMINISM WORLDWIDE

Women’s Rights Victory in Sierra Leone

Last week, the African nation of Sierra Leone passed landmark legislation in the Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment Act, requiring public and private employers to reserve at least 30% of positions for women, including leadership positions, and stipulates political parties have 30% female representation. It also mandates equal pay and grants women equal access to financial opportunities.

Extremely controversial in its time and today, Andrea Dworkin presents her feminist critique of pornography, the men who consume it, and it's damaging effect on women (even women who choose not to couple with men). DIY CORNER

How to Start a Book Club

As more and more female-only groups are being shut down for not being "inclusive", it's becoming more important than ever for women to create their own spaces and groups. Book clubs are a great way to do this.

Online or in person, they can be organized for any genre of literature. Women statistically read more books than men already, so you won't have a hard time finding other women readers, no matter what your tastes.

Women's book clubs have long been a way to resist patriarchy, share knowledge that is otherwise taboo, and strengthen female community. You can help keep that tradition going.

SITE UPDATES

Jan.16.2023 - [Issue #8] is up and I'm testing out a mobile-friendly version of the ezine. Work is still keeping me worn-out so I'm falling behind with updating the rest of the site and making new memes. But I won't stay down and out for long.

Jan.6.2023 - Issue #7 is here with a colorful new theme to celebrate the new year! I've added two new sections to the ezine - I'll be featuring a female musician and author each week in addition to a visual artist.

Jan.3.2023 - Fixed all typos on the main page. It was a brutal week at work in the real world and I was falling asleep sitting up while working on the update.
