XX WRITERS

Lorraine Hansberry - Playwright, Writer, Political Activist

Lorraine Hansberry (1930 - 1965) was an American writer and the first African-American woman to appear on Broadway. Her family's struggle against segregation shaped her writing and her political views.

Her best-known play A Raisin in the Sun tells the story of a family living in south Chicago in the 1950s and their struggles with finances, racism, and systematic discrimination. Considered one of the greatest plays ever written, it has been recreated in multiple mediums including radio, television, film, and many broadway revivals over the years.

Her influential writing spans four decades, challenging BDSM, trans identity, and critiquing the supposed empowerment of women via the 1970's Sexual Revolution. Christine de Pizan - Poet, Court Writer, Early Feminist

Christine de Pizan (1364 – 1430) was an Italian poet and court writer for King Charles VI of France. She authored some of the first known feminist writings, as well as novels, poetry, and literary reviews and analyses. Her most famous literary works, The Book of the City of Ladies and The Treasure of the City of Ladies discussed the status of women in society, stereotypes they faced, and expressed an exclusively female point-of-view at a time when such works otherwise did not exist.

DIY CORNER

How to Befriend Crows

Crows, ravens, and other corvids have held a special place in human myths and ceremonies for millenia - even Neanderthals went to great lengths to gather their feathers to use for jewelry. If you've ever wanted to befriend these charming creatures, it's easier than you think. With a couple of easy steps, you might be lucky enough to have regular feathery visitors around your home (and give your local wildlife some much-needed help).

SITE UPDATES

Jan.16.2023 - [Issue #8] is up and I'm testing out a mobile-friendly version of the ezine. Work is still keeping me worn-out so I'm falling behind with updating the rest of the site and making new memes. But I won't stay down and out for long.

Jan.6.2023 - Issue #7 is here with a colorful new theme to celebrate the new year! I've added two new sections to the ezine - I'll be featuring a female musician and author each week in addition to a visual artist.

Jan.3.2023 - Fixed all typos on the main page. It was a brutal week at work in the real world and I was falling asleep sitting up while working on the update.
