Fair Play for Women

Fair Play for Women is an organization that advocates for single-sex categories for females in sports. More and more trans-identifying male athletes are opting into women's competitions in order to unfairly monopolize awards, violating the dignity of female athletes and even posing a risk to their safety. It's more important than ever for women to support female-only sports and advocate for their protection.

XX WRITERS

Charlotte Perkins Gilman - Novelist, Humanist

Charlotte Perkins Gilman (1860 – 1935) was an American writer, feminist, and lecturer best known for her book The Yellow Wallpaper, which helped to bring awareness to the plight of women suffering from postpartum depression. The book was based on her own experience with the illness after giving birth, an ordeal that led her to divorce her husband and begin a new life with a close female friend - a highly unconventional choice at the time. She later became involved in social activism, representing both the National American Woman Suffrage Association and the International Socialist and Labor Congress.

Many of her works concerned the status of women in society and were brashly feminist for their time, condemning the forced domesticity of women and exploring its damage their minds and potential contributions to humanity. She was also deeply critical of the misogyny that permeated medicine at the time. She wrote, "There is no female mind. The brain is not an organ of sex. Might as well speak of a female liver." Her novel Herland describes a utopian society that is exclusively female, with women who procreate without the need of males.

FEATURED ESSAY

Stop asking "Where are the feminists?" The real question is, "Where are YOU?"

A 'gotcha' line frequently thrown around in the gender debate, especially by men, is "Where are they feminists? Why aren't they fighting?" For anyone entrenched and active in the fight, it's exhausting and feels to be in bad faith. But the point is, sadly, valid - the visibility of pushback is incredibly low, and opponents frequently misrepresentive feminists as "Conservative Christian" to further erase the movement. This essay outlines the women who are fighting the good fight - and who desperately need the support and collective voices of other women behind them.

XX HISTORY

Amazon Acres - A Separatist Sisterhood in the Wilderness

Amazon Acres was an attempt by young women living in South Wales in the 1970s to establish a utopian community of their own. The rules of their community were simple - no men, no machines, and no meat. Consisting mostly of lesbians and with a population of nearly 100 at times, they swam naked, farmed, foraged, and even raised their children together in the Welsh countryside.
